Hi! My name is Shelby and I am a Bilingual 3rd grade teacher at Central Elementary. We are a Title I school which means that most of our students come from low income families. This has become an obstacle for them to be introduced to books, especially ones they enjoy reading. Even more so, books that are in SPANISH is so limited. We encourage students to be bilingual, but when it comes for them to find a good book they are interested in, it is only in English and not Spanish. This has also discouraged my students to read. When students become in love with a book, it makes them want to continue to read more and more. This is why it is important for me to fill my classroom library with diverse SPANISH books, so that my students can find that love in the books they can relate to and enjoy reading. My goal is to create a classroom library that is filled Spanish book with the topics and characters that would motivate them to read. I believe that when building a healthy reading life, you must start off with books that you enjoy reading and on your level. I know it is getting close to the end of the school year but I would like to finish the year strong and providing them with fun books after their STAAR test. Also, I can continue to use them for next school year! Your support will help me raise $500 to fill our classroom library with new books.
