Hi there, I’m Dana, a 5th grade teacher at West Columbia Elementary. I launched this campaign to expand our classroom library to include titles to build reading skills, background knowledge and reinforce concepts/topics taught within the science and social studies lessons. Magazines, historical fiction novels and expository texts purchased will be used in literature circle groups and made available for independent reading. Exposing students to these concepts/topics/skills at varied reading levels in an integrated learning environment will spark interest and deepen comprehension across all subjects while strengthening their reading skills. I can only be the teacher I want to be if I can help my students become better readers AND expose them to the world around us - past and present. Your support will help me raise $1000 to fill our classroom library with new titles and magazines of high interest articles.
