Simply having books in the home is correlated to increased reading success for students. Hi, my name is Kimberly Petty, and I teach 1st grade in a low-income Title One school. Each year, I find that many of my students do not have access to books in their own homes. While my students have access to the school library and my own classroom library, nothing inspires a child to love reading quite like a book of their own, which is why every year I ask members of our community to partner with me to help provide my students with appropriate and engaging books from Scholastic. For $2 each month, I can provide a student in my class with a book of their own to help them grow their skills and their love of reading. This year I am blessed with 20 students.
