Do you love to read one genre more than another? Do you gravitate to a specific type of book that always sparks an interest so intense that you cannot wait to crack it open and begin your journey or transformation? If so, then you understand my desire to create that anticipation in my students.
Hello, I am Mindy Rom and I teach 4th grade. I naturally gravitate to fiction books where I am transported to another reality and escape into a new adventure. I get excited to introduce my students to the magical land of Narnia, the troublesome world of a Fourth...read more Grade Nothing, and the hardships of Esperanza. My students find ways to connect with the characters and see themselves reflected in their struggles and triumphs.
I do not typically find the same joy in nonfiction books. That was true until I discovered the Who Was/Is, What Was/Is, and Where Is Book series. They open a whole new world of exploring and I get excited every time one of my students picks one up and starts learning about someone, someplace, or something new. These books allow students to see the real life of people who have impacted our world, explore new places that they can realistically visit someday, and discover things about the world around them in an easy to read, well written format. It is my wish that my students will gain a new appreciation for the nonfiction/informational genre and incorporate it into their life of reading.read less
