I turn 50 this year and want to celebrate with my students. They have had a very tough year. They are survivors of a hurricane in the mountains that resulted in lost homes, mudslides, flooding, and currently, wildfires. My students, called Daytonators, have also been forced to deal with a month of uncertain schedules (I was out for health issues) and this caused many of my students undue anxiety because they need structure which I was unable to give. The guilt weighs on my soul to this day.
