Our Story: Bringing Books to Grace Patterson Elementary At Grace Patterson Elementary, we serve a beautifully diverse community of students who bring incredible energy, creativity, and unique perspectives to our classrooms every day. However, many of our students face significant economic challenges that limit their access to books both at home and in school. Our Students Deserve More Our school serves a predominantly low-income population, and while our students are bright, curious, and eager to learn, they often lack access to the books that can unlock their potential. Many of our students don’t have books at home, and our classroom libraries need strengthening to provide the rich reading experiences every child deserves. Our Goal: Two Class Sets of “Hatchet” My grade level partner and I are working to raise $200 to purchase two complete class sets of Gary Paulsen’s “Hatchet.” This powerful survival story resonates with students of all backgrounds and reading levels, offering: • Engaging content that keeps reluctant readers turning pages • Universal themes of resilience, problem-solving, and personal growth • Opportunities for rich discussions about character development and survival skills • A shared reading experience that builds classroom community Why This Matters When students have access to high-quality books like “Hatchet,” we see: • Increased reading engagement and confidence • Improved comprehension skills • Enhanced classroom discussions • Students discovering the joy of reading How You Can Help Your donation of any amount will help us reach our $200 goal and put these books directly into our students’ hands. Every dollar brings us closer to ensuring that all our students have access to this incredible story and the reading opportunities they deserve. Thank you for believing in our students and helping us build a stronger foundation for their literacy journey.
