CHAUNDRA MITCHELL
My name is Chaundra Mitchell, and I am a passionate literacy coach dedicated to building literacy capacity among educators, families, and students across Washington, D.C. I believe that every child deserves access to high-quality, engaging books—especially during the summer months when reading can spark imagination, sustain growth, and prevent the “summer slide.” That’s why I'm launching a Summer Reading Initiative, a powerful literacy effort to ensure every student in grades PK–6 receives at least three carefully selected books to take home and enjoy...read more over the summer. My goal is not only to give students something to read—but to give them something to love. I want to make sure students leave school with stories in their hands and excitement in their hearts. To make this vision a reality, I am seeking to raise $5,000 to support this initiative. This funding will allow the schools I support to purchase high-interest, culturally relevant books for every student, ensuring equity and access to meaningful summer reading opportunities. With your support, we can help students stay connected to reading, build their literacy skills, and enter the next school year inspired and ready to learn. Let’s work together to close the literacy gap—one book at a time. Support building home libraries. Support Literacy. Support Futures.read less
