Frederick Douglass once wrote "It is easier to build strong children, than to repair broken men." Read to Love: Teaching Diversity and Empathy through Text is the name of this campaign because now more than ever our children need to learn about the beauty and truth of this diverse and wonderful world. They need to read books and see characters who look like them, talk like them, feel like them, and have experienced similar experiences as them. Most of all, we must read to learn about history, so that we never repeat it. Through the quarantine and...read more divisiveness of recent times, my classroom mission has become much more clear. It is my goal to teach love, understanding, diversity, and empathy through text. by looking at the diverse history of our nation through books and stories outlining the highs and lows of our national story. Please help me raise $500 for my classroom library so that my students can read about the important men and women of color who have shaped American History, the Heroes who served our country, and the tragedies and triumphs of our past and present so that I may help build strong children who are ready to bring about change we can believe in.read less
