Among many goals that I have for myself as an educator, creating a culturally relevant classroom library is one of my top priorities. Culturally relevant teaching can be defined as "a conceptual framework that recognizes the importance of including students’ cultural backgrounds, interests, and lived experiences in all aspects of teaching and learning within the classroom and across the school." It is my belief that as perspectives change and develop over the years, books available in the classroom must change as well to provide opportunities to expose children to diverse communities and experiences that are currently relevant to our every day lives. With the funds raised in this campaign, I would like to continue to expand my classroom library to represent all of my students' cultural backgrounds, interests, and experiences. I would also like to stock up on culturally relevant books that I can give to students to keep. Thank you for supporting this fifth grade classroom!
