I am a 5th grade ELA teacher in a rural North Carolina community. We are a title one school and often lack funding for books and supplies beyond the basics. I always try to provide my students with books they would not have access to on their own, which can get expensive for me on a teacher salary. With donations and funding I would have the opportunity to stick my classroom library and create book club groups on assigned novels throughout the year. These groups and independent reading times will help my students to grow and develop their comprehension, critical thinking, and communication skills while also developing a life long love of reading.
