I refuse to allow children to cry at the book fair because they can't afford a book, or cry in class because they don't have money in hand and a flyer with a dozen books circled. For over a decade we've ensured that EVERY Hedge kid goes home with ALL the books they want. Every penny that's donated goes right to buying books off the shelves at the fair. This fund also lets us fill classrooms with the freshest books, help new teachers start their libraries, refresh the school library with replacement copies and new titles. $700 will ensure that 70 of the 190 children at Hedge have $10 to spend on books. But we never turn a child away. When our book fair reaches $3,500, we receive half of that back in "Scholastic Dollars," enabling us to pull more books from the fair and even purchase furniture, online programs, full book collections, rugs, sensory equipment and more to keep our school fresh and inviting to every child. One dollar or 50, you can donate whatever you have to give. Every dollar counts when it comes to putting books in a child's home.
