I teach in a high poverty school in Chicago where most of my students have a limited number of books at home. When we are in our classroom, they get so excited to check out a book from our classroom library! My fourth grade ELL students need high interest diverse books at their reading level. Our first campaign will fund five books for each of my 30 students. Due to Covid-19, I’m not sure how sharing books from our classroom library will work and I want my students to have access to their own books at home. My goal is to provide each one of my students with a book bin of books that will help them build their foundational literacy skills and grow in their love for reading! My students will also be creating Book Talks on Flipgrid and sharing their reviews with their peers which will help increase their language skills and get them excited to learn from one another! Oh the places they will go when given the right books to help them grow!
