Hi! My name is Jill, and I teach high school learning support English at a small, rural high school in Pennsylvania. My students are typically struggling readers. By the time they reach high school, most have the mindset that reading is hard, reading is work, and reading is boring. I'd like to transform that mindset into "Reading is fun, reading is enjoyable, and I can read well!" To do that, I need them to have access to books that are appropriate for them both in age level and in ability level. I would like to have each student receive a book a month for the next school year. Few of them own any books at all in their own age and ability range, and I think the ownership part of it will also help with their engagement and interest.
