I teach children age 3-5. 1 in 5 Illinois adults is illiterate, but it's 1 in 4 in Cook ... Illiteracy remains a significant problem in Chicago, with approximately 1 in 4 adults in Cook County being functionally illiterate and student proficiency levels in Chicago Public Schools (CPS) remaining alarmingly low, especially for minority and low-income students. I would like to send 2 books home per month for ten children, any funds in excess of that will be used to bolster the in classroom library of books( books that promote alphabetic numeric, and social emotional literacy). We must encourage and support literacy amongst our children, that they not become tools and slaves. KNOW THYSELF
