How to use this product:

Teaching Students to Use Context Clues
Whether it’s called DEAR time or sustained silent reading, a popular trend in schools today is to allocate more time to in-school reading. As students increase the amount of independent reading they do, they dramatically increase the amount of new words they encounter. Educators Jane Buikema and Michael Graves investigated the idea of teaching students how to use context clues to comprehend new words and created a lesson plan designed to teach students how to recognize and use context clues to understand unfamiliar words. I have adapted the five-day lesson plan that Buikmea and Graves designed into the following three-day lesson plan. I used it with my fifth-grade students and saw my students using context to accurately predict word meanings. I also saw state standardized test scores in reading improve greatly!
