On November 28, 1964, the Mariner 4 became the first spacecraft to successfully collect data and images of the planet Mars. In recognition of this inaugural landing, the date now serves as Red Planet Day for space lovers of all ages. Red Planet Day not only serves to honor our celestial neighbor but also to celebrate the science of astronomy and the exciting past and present-day exploration of space.
