Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Women’s Right to Vote

The ratification of the 19th amendment in the summer of 1920 was an accumulation of many decades of struggle that finally granted women the right to vote. The upcoming November elections offer an opportunity to reflect on the suffrage movement and the brave women who fought fiercely, and who even faced prison terms, to ensure that women’s voices counted in the democratic process. Can you imagine what the suffragists would have thought if you told them that 100 years from now not only would women be voting, but they would also have the opportunity to vote for a woman vice president?

Delving into the history of Lucy Stone, Carrie Lane Chapman Catt, and Susan B. Anthony, among other influential individuals, offers an intimate view of the discourse experienced while fighting for the ideals of a patriarchal society. Not only did these remarkable women win their fight for women’s right to vote, but also paved the way for future women to have a seat at the table, beyond the picket lines, and onto the voting ballot.
