This online course is structured in much the same way as Decoding for Readers, Grades 3-5, this course focuses on strategies for helping students who have not mastered intermediate decoding skills. The course emphasizes the role of phonics instruction with respect to students' stage of reading development. Since the decoding needs of students in these grades vary (some students need intensive help; others will benefit from more emphasis on encoding), participants will learn how to assess and group students accordingly for effective intervention. Teachers will learn at their own pace, earn graduate credit or continuing education units, communicate with colleagues around the world, stay current on research-based strategies, and have access to hundreds of resources to use in their classroom.
