Alexander Graham Bell changed the world in 1876, when he sent the first message over the telephone. But the telephone was just one of Bell’s many inventions and interests. Bell designed airplanes that set flight records, created a probe to find a bullet lodged in the body so that it could be removed, and invented devices to locate icebergs and remove salt from sea water. He made friends with Helen Keller and helped her and other deaf people learn to communicate better.
