Sidebars on Display
Create a small bulletin board with copies of sidebars from textbooks, magazines, nonfiction or informational picture books, brochures, and manuals. Each day, read two sidebars aloud and ask students to categorize them. One student can then label the sidebars that you’ve discussed. In this way, students have concrete examples before their eyes. This support will help them include different kinds of information in their own writing!
