Volcanology is possibly the most exciting field in geology, and it's certainly among the most dangerous. These risk-taking scientists have even been known to climb inside active volcanoes-but their research is ultimately intended to save lives. The better they are able to predict an eruption, the easier it becomes to evacuate surrounding populations.
