REVIEWS: 2/1/05 Library Media Connection This series clearly shows math concepts through simple text on one side of the spread and illustrative photos on the other. Apple Fractions shows how apples can be divided to produce fractions of the whole, and then shows the fractional value of each portion in a number of ways. The text invites the reader to draw conclusions when the apple has been peeled. It transitions smoothly to address fractional values related to apple muffins, thus showing how the concept works with other objects. In How Long Is It? photographs start with general concepts, such as bigger and smaller, and then show how people measure things with rulers and yardsticks to give exact dimensions. Finally it shows how any object can be measured with another object-the butterfly drawing is three crayons tall-to show relative size. Words You Know shows single words with corresponding photographs. Index. Recommended.
