One striking feature of this series is its use of authors who currently live in the state they are writing about. This gives the texts a more personal tone and, presumably, increased accuracy. Many of the "report" facts are gathered together in an almanac at the back of each book. Children's Press' America the Beautiful series, published for older students, remains very good as well; updating of that series will begin in fall 2007.
